Project with Johann-Thienemann-Schule

ESMT trained high school students for their job applications

Students are crossing a virtual river with only a few papers to step on: work with the team or "drown"

For the second year in a row ESMT welcomed high school students from the Johann-Thienemann-Schule in Berlin for two days of job application training with ESMT lecturers and HR practitioners. The project workshop is of great relevance to the students as they begin the competitive process of applying for an apprenticeship.

The workshops were just as diverse as the requirements for a successful job application. An introduction to politics and the market economy was followed by team-building games and sessions on how to best organize the whole application process, as well as professional photos. But all the workshops had one thing in common: the students had to actively participate. The session about the market economy took the shape of a (paper) airplane production—under real market conditions. The students had to do it all themselves, everything from gathering and funding the materials to producing the airplanes and lastly selling their products for higher prices than their classmates.
The students took on their tasks with much enthusiasm and as student Melodie Brahimay said, “It’s a completely different atmosphere around here!”

It is now up to the students to use the tools they received during the two days at ESMT, and ESMT will monitor their development, visiting them again to help with their concrete job applications. ESMT wishes them all the best and is already looking forward to meeting another group of students from the Johann-Thienemann-Schule next year.
