Jens Weinmann
Manager, ESMT Competition Analysis
Jens Weinmann joined the Competition Analysis Unit of ESMT in April 2007. He brings a broad knowledge of empirical methods and its application to real world problems to ESMT Competition Analysis. He participated in numerous consulting projects in the electricity sector and in postal services, including quantitative and qualitative studies in the United Kingdom, Germany, South-East Europe, and South Korea. He also contributed to projects and studies for the World Energy Council and the Latin American Energy Organization, OLADE.
His research interest focuses on institutional change in network industries, in particular the electricity sector in Europe, North America and Latin America. He has investigated the determinants of privatization revenues in electricity generation and distribution utilities, entry and exit strategies of international investors in emerging power markets, and corporate change in the electricity supply industry. In respect to new regulatory models, he explores mechanisms of regional policy diffusion and drivers of market design convergence in competitive electricity markets, in particular the effects of transnational regulatory networks.
Previously, he worked as a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Florence School of Regulation, European University Institute, and as Repsol YPF - Harvard Kennedy School Fellow at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He also had the position of visiting scholar at IAE - Universidad Austral in Buenos Aires. In 2004, he received his PhD from the Decision Science Department at London Business School.
