Rainer Nitsche is an expert in providing economic advice in merger and state aid control as well as in competition and litigation cases before the European Commission and national competition authorities. In addition, he has advised on a variety of regulation issues in network industries (transport, telecommunications, postal services, and electricity). Beside renowned law firms, his clients also include the European Commission and Austrian, British, Dutch, and German competition and regulatory authorities. Rainer Nitsche has investigated competition issues for companies in the chemicals (Degussa, Merck), telecommunications (T-Mobile, Cable & Wireless), electricity (RWE, Nuon, Ruhrkohle AG), industrial goods (vacuum pumps, waste incineration plants), and consumer goods (Procter & Gamble, Dr. Oetker) industries. In a report produced recently for the European Commission, Rainer Nitsche developed economic methods for assessing the effect of state aid on competition and trade. He advised several European national governments and state aid recipients in this area.
Prior to his work for ESMT Competition Analysis Rainer Nitsche was Vice President in the Competition Practice and Director of the Brussels office of CRA. Before his five years in Brussels he was an economic consultant at Price Waterhouse and Arthur Andersen in London and Berlin.
