What we do

Delivering unique research and expert advice

ESMT Competition Analysis delivers unique research and expert advice in the field of competition policy and regulation. Competition Analysis stands for robust economic analysis in competition matters. The assessment of competition cases in light of modern economic principles that are robust and empirically tested, as well as the reliance on a number of empirical methodologies that help identify a theory of harm, is at the core of such an analysis.

ESMT Competition Analysis is built upon the following four principles:
  • It is the cumulative not the marginal knowledge of economic research which forms the core of robust antitrust economics.
  • Economic theory is necessary to “frame” a case, i.e. to identify the theory of harm from the very beginning, and has to be applied in a fully integrated approach.
  • The theoretical analysis is complemented by a fact-based analysis to check assumptions, identify and quantify effects.
  • There is no single perfect empirical approach, but it is the multiplicity of various approaches which produce robustness.
