Who we are

ESMT Competition Analysis GmbH is working on central topics in the field of competition policy and regulation. These include case-related work on European competition matters, e.g. merger, antitrust or state aid cases, economic analysis within regulatory procedures and studies for international organizations on competition policy issues. ESMT Competition Analysis applies rigorous economic thinking with a unique combination of creativity and robustness, in order to meet the highest quality standards of international clients.

With Lars-Hendrik Röller, ESMT President and former Chief Economist of DG COMP, Hans W. Friederiszick, member of the Chief Economist Team for the last three years and Rainer Nitsche, former Vice President in the Competition Practice and Director of the Brussels office of CRA, ESMT Competition Analysis is ideally positioned to shape competition policy in Europe.

ESMT Competition Analysis is part of the European School of Management and Technology. ESMT was founded in October 2002 on the initiative of 25 leading German companies and associations, and aimed at establishing an international business school with a distinct European focus. ESMT’s knowledge approach is “theoria cum praxi”, which involves a dynamic combination and integration of teaching, research, and practice.

Fully integrated into an international business school, ESMT Competition Analysis benefits from in-depth business experience of ESMT professionals as well as exceptional research capabilities of ESMT professors specialized in industrial organization, quantitative methods or with relevant sector knowledge. Furthermore, ESMT Competition Analysis contributes to ESMT’s teaching profile by jointly setting up events (like conferences and executive programs) in the field of microeconomics, competition and regulation, and by providing specialized training modules based on experience in competition cases. As a result, the practice group Competition Analysis mirrors ESMT’s overall approach by combining activities in teaching, research and consulting, with an emphasis on the latter.
