Svetlana Khapova
ESMT Visiting Faculty
Professor Svetlana Khapova is an ESMT Visiting Faculty Member and Associate Professor of Career Studies at VU University Amsterdam. She is co-founder and Director of Doctoral Education at Amsterdam Business Research Institute VU.
Svetlana’s research concerns careers and career investments of contemporary employees. She is particularly interested in career behavior implications for organizational outcomes. Other topics include interdisciplinary approaches in career studies, subjective career, career success, careers across cultures, and the identity of career research in Europe. Her work is published in the Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Career Development International, and a number of edited volumes. Currently, she is co-editing a special issue of Human Relations.
She is Programme Chair of Careers Division at the Academy of Management conference in Montreal 2010; and has been a co-convener of the careers sub-track at the European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS) in Amsterdam 2008, Barcelona 2009, and Lisbon 2010.
Svetlana co-founded and organized a series of international conferences: International Conference on Careers Research and Practice, Amsterdam 2007 and 2008; EAWOP Small Group Meeting “Empowering Careers Research in Europe: New Dialogue, Concepts and Studies,” Amsterdam, 2008.
She is on the board of the international "Consortium for the Cross-Cultural Study of Contemporary Careers" (5C Group). This is an international research collaboration initiated in 2004 to define and measure differences in individual, social and structural influences on definitions of career success and adaptation to emerging economic conditions in terms of career management. Countries involved are: Austria, China, Costa Rica, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, United States.
She is also on the board of the "European Research Network on Graduates' Careers" - a European (12 countries) network of researchers and officers in career and placement centres dealing with various aspects of business school graduates.
Svetlana’s awards include Highly Commended Award (2008) from Emerald Publishing Group; Small Group Meeting grant from the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (2008); Best Reviewer Award (2007) and a nomination for the Best Symposium Award (2007) by Careers Division of the Academy of Management; and a nomination for the Best Teacher Award at the VU University Amsterdam (2006).
She is EQUAL Ambassador of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of VU University Amsterdam. In 2009, the faculty board selected Svetlana to take part in the 1st Leadership Development (high-potential) programme of VU University Amsterdam.
