Paul Strebel is IMD Professor Emeritus of Governance, Strategy and Change. In addition to IMD programs, he works with boards of directors and top management teams as a consultrant and seminar leader. Paul Strebel's work on he anticipation and management of breakpoints , change and governance has influenced many managers and organizations. He has lead seminars for more than 50 multinationals in Europe, US, South Africa, Middle East, and S.E. Asia.
His current research focuses on corporate governance, strategic breakpoints and the leadership of change over time, summarized in his latest book on "Smart Big Moves: The Story Behind Strategic Breakthroughs". Professor Strebel received the Award for Research on Leadership from the Association of Executive Search Consultants for his article on "The Case for Contingent Governance", published in the Sloan Management Review. He is a regular contributor on governance issues to the business press, including the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal.
Paul Strebel has published articles in the Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Long Range Planning, among others. His books include Trajectory Management: Leading a Business over Time (Wiley), Focused Energy: Mastering Bottom-up Organization (Wiley), The Change Pact: Building Commitment to Ongoing Change (Financial Times Prentice Hall) and Breakpoints: How Managers Exploit Radical Business Change (Harvard Business School Press). He is the co-editor of IMD's guide book on Mastering Executive Education: How to Combine Content with Context and Emotion (Financial Times Prentice Hall) and has numerous case study awards from the European Foundation for Management Development.
Professor Paul Strebel is on several boards of directors and, prior to his current position, was director of the Breakthrough Program for Senior Executives. Before joining IMD, he was the Chair of the Finance and Economics Group at the State University of New York and Director of the MBA Program at the University of the Witwatersrand Graduate School of Business in Johannesburg. He received his MSc from the University of Cape Town, MBA from Columbia University in New York, and PhD from Princeton University.
