ESMT: What is your current responsibility?
Siegfried: I am responsible for servicing the operational entities within the Anglo-American markets, which includes UK, Australasia, US, Canada and the like. Part of this service is to enable the implementation of NPS as a customer focus initiative by means of training and development of resources, followed by monitoring and evaluation which results in a certification of standards.
What kind of development does this job mean to you compared to your pre-MBA career? Why did you choose this job?
Allianz is a global player and the largest insurance company in the world, not to mention being a formidable asset manager, in other words, a big fish in a big pond. I have always wanted to travel and play a meaningful part in a global setting, and this job offers me the opportunity to use my natural skills and those I have developed over the years, especially during my MBA, in order to build a truly customer centric organization. A big plus for me in taking this job is that it is in the financial sector – an area where I am very keen in building experience and developing capabilities.
How did the ESMT MBA prepare you for this job?
I do not think I would have had the wealth of opportunities and exposure to such multinational companies as Allianz had it not been for the ESMT MBA. ESMT’s focus on being an applied school of practice, where you are exposed to real and relevant teaching and practical opportunities has enabled me to assimilate to the real-world environment quite comfortably and engage my career with a foundation that is rock-solid. The school has a mature, multi-national and multi-cultural class which is constantly engaged with real management issues while having an academic focus that is strongly underpinned by practical consultation with the world and its issues.
