Simon Wakeman
Associate Professor
Simon Wakeman joined the ESMT faculty as an assistant professor in September 2007 and was promoted to associate professor in September 2010. Simon holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Economics and a Bachelor of Laws with Honors both from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He received his PhD in Business Administration and a Masters degree in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley, and in 2006-7 was a fellow at Stanford Law School's Center of Law & the Biosciences. Prior to entering graduate school, he worked for four years as an economic consultant, researching and writing economic testimony for competition/antitrust, regulation, and damages cases in the US, Australia, and New Zealand.
His research examines firm strategy for commercializing innovation, with a particular focus on the role that contractual arrangements and intellectual property rights play in that strategy. At ESMT he teaches courses on Business Strategy and Capturing Value from Innovation in the Full-Time MBA, Executive MBA, and Executive Education programs.
