Sponsor the restoration of ten tiles
The mosaic fountain, located in the garden behind ESMT Berlin on Schlossplatz 1, is an excellent example of modernist art, inspired by works of masters like Miró, Kandinsky and Matisse. Built in 1964, the fountain was designed by Ortrud Lerch. The fountain’s vivid colors reflect those of Walter Womacka’s mosaic glass window, which stands opposite and overlooks the fountain. The fountain, as well as the garden and the building, are under a preservation order for cultural heritage. The garden is open to the public for viewing.
The fountain has suffered during the decades and the scale of damage is extensive. There are missing pieces of mosaic, broken structures, and vegetation growing through the broken surface. ESMT is collecting funds for the restoration of the historic garden fountain. The aim of the project is to restore the fountain to its former glory. The restoration work will last approximately 6 months and cost approximately € 350,000.
