MBA career transitions

MBA Career Transitions in Practice

Building on your career goals

Many MBA candidates want to change their careers, and ESMT’s Career Services department provides students with the tools to meet this goal. Students have opportunities to continuously self-improve and reflect on their goals and aspirations while at ESMT. For this, Career Services organizes a series of trainings, seminars, and workshops. They begin with self-assessment and build up to the full recruitment season in the last months of the MBA program. Combined with corporate networking opportunities and the MBA leadership development program, students are given ample opportunities to develop a career path that is right for them.

Workshops

Workshops

Career Services organizes a series of workshops and seminars every year which are fully integrated into the course schedule. The workshops give students time to reflect on their MBA experience and how it will affect the next step in their career after the MBA.

Workshop topics change every year, based on job market changes, student feedback, and the particular concerns of the MBA class.

Career coaching

Career coaching

ESMT is one of only a few schools that offer personalized one-on-one career coaching from trained professionals. MBA candidates meet with their coach at various points during the program. Coaches use this time to discuss personal life decisions that students make during their MBA, including:

  • How the MBA’s intensive intercultural teamwork is affecting their personal outlook and leadership style
  • Assessing career goals and designing a career development plan
  • Discussing each student’s job placement strategy

ESMT MBA students meet with the same career coach throughout the year, which allows for continual constructive feedback and development. This approach strengthens each MBA student and allows them to choose the right career direction.

Mentors

Mentors

Students have the option to engage with a corporate mentor during the MBA program. The mentorships are an opportunity to network and gain insights into their professional and academic experience while at ESMT.

Career Services draws upon ESMT’s network of alumni, corporate founders, and other contacts to pair students with a mentor. Corporate mentors volunteer their time and give students a fresh opinion about career development, transitions, and the MBA experience.

CV book

CV book

Every year, Career Services works with students to write and optimize their CV, which is published as a book for corporate contacts. Career Services distributes the CV book to ESMT’s  corporate network. To receive your copy of the latest CV Book, please contact Marcel Kalis

Employment tools

Employment tools

Students have access to a variety of tools when making the next step into their post-MBA career. Recruiting companies often forward open positions to ESMT’s Career Services, and students are informed and given the opportunity to apply directly. ESMT alumni and MBA students have access to a job-posting platform, where the alumni network lets current students know about opportunities in their companies. When combined with the corporate networking opportunities available on campus, students have abundant opportunities to make the next step in their career.

Consulting projects

Consulting projects

ESMT Career Services has an active role in developing the consulting projects each year. Consulting projects come from many corporate, startup, and non-profit sources, in many industries. Career Services works closely with ESMT's corporate network, students, and student clubs to choose a variety of projects for the MBA class.

The Consulting Project is a company’s opportunity to interact with a team of MBA students on a project. The project  results are valuable to the company – many organizational suggestions have been implemented by the client company after the project’s conclusion. In the past, up to 20% of the MBA class has been in placement negotiations with the client company during or after the project. For more information about offering a consulting project to this year’s MBA class, contact Marcel Kalis.
