The conceptual backdrop of the English language “Emerging Leaders Program” (ELP) allows for the co-existence of a variety of leadership theories so that participants may choose the one that best suits them, their organization, and their career objectives.
Top talents assigned to their first significant leadership roles are thrust into authoritative positions and tasked with creating an environment that promotes team growth and business success while mitigating conflict. They need to demonstrate credible leadership to their superiors, peers, and subordinates. However, it takes a full set of skills and a leadership mindset to master the challenges and fulfill the high expectations that emerging leaders face.

Meet the teaching staff
Gianluca Carnabuci (Program Director)
Gianluca joined ESMT Berlin in 2016 as an associate professor of organizational behavior. Previously he was an associate professor of organization and management at the University of Lugano and an assistant professor at Bocconi University. He holds a PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences from the University of Amsterdam.
His research interests revolve around the analysis of inter- and intra-organizational networks, with particular regard to the generation and recombination of technological knowledge.
He has taught or teaches courses in Organization Theory, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Design and Change, Networks and Organizations, Knowledge and Organization, Human Resource Management, Negotiation, and Leadership.
Executive Coach, ESMT Berlin
Andreas Bernhardt is an executive development advisor and the lead coach at ESMT Berlin. He has more than 20 years of practical leadership development experience with executives from more than 30 countries and has designed and delivered executive programs for several international companies. He teaches and coaches in the areas of leadership, organizational behavior, negotiations, and change.
Professor, Pietro Ferrero Chair in Sustainability, Director, Center for Sustainable Business, ESMT, Berlin
Matt Bothner is a professor and Deutsche Telekom Chair in Leadership and HR Development at ESMT Berlin. His current research addresses the measurement and consequences of social status in several empirical settings, including venture capital, professional sports, and higher education. In addition, he has developed computational models, both to better understand factors affecting the evolution of cumulative advantage and to clarify the optimal strategies for leading tournaments for peer recognition. His research has been published in Administrative Science Quarterly, American Journal of Sociology, Management Science, and Organization Science.
Lecturer and Head of the Practice Group Consumer Goods and Retail, ESMT Berlin
Urs Müller is a lecturer and member of the faculty at ESMT Berlin. His focus in research and teaching is in the areas of business ethics, strategy, and change management. He studied philosophy, German literature, and art history. Before joining ESMT, he worked as a management consultant for A.T. Kearney. Urs is a bestselling and award winning case author and serves as a visiting tutor on writing and teaching for The Case Centre. His work has been featured and quoted in several leading media such as the
Financial Times, The Times, Deutsche Welle, BILD, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Handelsblatt.
Professor of Management Science, ESMT Berlin
Francis de Véricourt is a professor of management science at ESMT Berlin. Francis’s general research interest is in operations excellence with an overlap in managerial decision-making. His current focus is on business sustainability and social innovation. His research has been published in leading management journals, including Management Science, Operations Research, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. His work has won several awards. He is the current chair of the MSOM sustainability special interest group of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. Francis is also on the editorial boards of several leading academic journals.
