Decisions made under high pressure can have devastating consequences. One example of this is the misjudgment and mishandling of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Even in business environments, executives can find themselves in extremely stressful situations.
They may have to assess complex issues, handle controversial information and be required to draw the right conclusions under tremendous time constraints. The more critical and dynamic a situation is, the more consequential the errors can be for an organization. In those situations the ability to stay calm, keep cool and act rationally are particularly determinant in an organization’s success. In this program, participants will develop the skills to apply psychological techniques into practice.
Moreover, they will learn how to improve their cognitive performance in times of massive stress and how to handle conflicting or insufficient information.
The program is designed in such a way that it can be attended as a follow-up to the course „Leistungsmanagement: Führung, Resilienz, Stressmanagement“.
The program is aimed towards executives who would like to explore their strengths, but also their limits under high stress. They will learn how to perform efficiently in situations of extreme stress. Leadership experience is an advantage, but not a must. The seminar is also suitable for young talents to assess their potential.
Participants will get to know their emotional and cognitive limits in situations where they need to act under high time pressure. They will analyze concrete, real-life cases and examine the typical mistakes and traps that characterize crisis situations. The faculty members will help the participants to evaluate their leadership behavior under time, decision-making and action pressure.

is an ESMT Berlin program director for German open enrollment programs in leadership for young leaders and middle managers at the ESMT Berlin Campus Schloss Gracht. Karin received both her doctoral degree on evaluation of trainings in 2003 and her Diplom-Kauffrau in 1995 from the University of Augsburg. She attended a DAAD scholarship program where she studied economics and obtained her MA degree from the Wayne State University in 1993. Karin is a graduate of the International Teacher's Program at the London Business School and the Business Coaching Certification Program at DGFP.
Karin previously worked in the controlling department for the Siemens AG and Weltbild Verlag GmbH. She was a lecturer for business management and leadership at two German universities of applied sciences.
Her main focus in teaching and research lies in leadership, group dynamics, change management, and in the influence of personality on business success.
Karin has more than 20 years of practical experience in leadership development and directed and taught in open and customized executive education programs for customers such as IBM, Hugo Boss, Hochtief, and Sal. Oppenheim.
is an ESMT visiting lecturer and professor of human resource management and business psychology at Hochschule Hannover (Germany) and scientific director and lecturer in the ESMT Leadership & HR program. He received his Diploma (FH) in Public Administration from the Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences in Cologne, his Diploma in Psychology from Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg and his Doctorate from Eberhard-Karls-University Tübingen. His research focuses on Human Resource Management and Counterproductive Work Behaviour.
is a criminal investigative analyst and has been leading the Bavarian Department of Operative Case Analysis since 1998. In this capacity, he advises the heads of special commissions both in Germany and abroad with respect to decision-making processes in the investigation of sex and serial murders or extraordinary threat scenarios. He was decisively involved in solving spectacular cases such as the series of murders by the so-called "Maskenmann". His experiences in the fields of behavioral assessment and executive consulting have been published in "Die Logik der Tat" (Droemer, Munich 2014).
