Research Assistant

For a research project, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), we are looking for a

Research Assistant
(m/f, 65 % to 100 % working hours, 2 - 3 years (depending on available funding))

The research assistant will be supervised by Prof. Francis de Véricourt, the principal investigator of the research project “Audit schedules in the presence of concealing effort in supply chains”.

As Research Assistant you will

  • work on a research program, which lies at the interface between operations research and economics (such as agency problems - moral hazard, information asymmetry, etc. - in operations systems)
  • review literature, formulate and solve mathematical models and write research papers
  • potentially collaborate with universities in the United States and France

You are qualified because you

  • hold a PhD, or are a PhD student in management science / operations research or economics
  • have very strong modeling and analytical skills such as optimization, dynamic programming, dynamic mechanism design, etc.
  • have experience in LaTeX and programming (e.g. MATLAB, Python or Java, etc.)
  • are motivated to work in an international academic environment
  • are completely fluent in English

Research Assistant

Research Assistant

We are looking for a

Research Assistant
(m/f, part-time, flexible hours)

who will be supervised by Prof. Catalina Stefanescu-Cuntze. The project aims to model the price of commodity futures contracts as a function of observed explanatory variables and unobserved global inventory levels. The parameters of the models need to be estimated using a large data set of futures prices for different commodities over several time periods. With the estimated parameters, the unobserved true levels of inventories can then be recovered.

We estimate the project to take a maximum of roughly 500 hours total and the working time is flexible.

Your tasks will be

  • work on a research program, which lies at the interface between finance and statistics
  • code up optimization algorithms for likelihood estimation of statistical models  
  • review literature, formulate and solve mathematical models and write research papers

You are qualified, because you

  • are a master or PhD student in Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, or Finance
  • have strong modeling, analysis and optimization skills, and familiarity with statistical estimation and data management
  • have knowledge or interest in statistical estimation practice (in particular familiarity with the Kalman filter).
  • have strong computing skills, preferably in Matlab
  • have knowledge in financial models of futures pricing (not required but would be asset)
  • have good English skills and are motivated to work in an international academic environment

Your duties would include

  • proof-reading, editing, rewriting/summarizing, and formatting research materials of ESMT faculty in American English and grammar, following the Chicago Manual of Style
  • maintaining and entering publications in an online database (Digital Measures)
  • compiling and preparing the annual Research & Development report
  • reviewing and verifying the style, copyright, and referencing of research publications
  • coordinating and processing ESMT publication series, which currently includes case studies, working papers, white papers, and business brief

75 % of the job is managing a database and 25 % is proofreading/editing.

You are qualified for this position, because you

  • are either a native English speaker or have the language proficiency of a native English speaker
  • are very comfortable using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • have very good organizational and time-management skills and pay attention to details

Admissions Manager

As a member of the Admissions Office, you will contribute to our success in a multicultural, collegial work environment by:

1. Providing high-level service in prospect management by email, letter, social media, and in person

  • Consulting applicants on program choice and on the application process

  • Double check all data with third party sources (e.g. LinkedIn and Xing for alumni)

  • Monitor response rates, draft reminders for rankings owners when appropriate (depending on ranking)
  • Draft analysis of ranking outcome and closing the loop

You are qualified because you

  • have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline

You will

  • spend the first 6 weeks of your time intensively learning about ESMT’s degree programs on site in Berlin, meeting with the program teams and researching the motivation of students

Als studentische Hilfskraft im Bereich Faculty Resources werden Sie

sich mit der ganzen Palette an administrativen und organisatorischen Tätigkeiten im Bereich Faculty Resources beschäftigen, unter anderem Unterstützung der Faculty Assistants bei:

  • Reisevorbereitungen und Kostenabrechnungen der Professoren
  • allgemeinem administrativen Support
  • der Organisation von Forschungsseminaren und anderen internen Veranstaltungen
  • der Vermittlung zwischen Professoren und deutschen Ämtern/Unternehmen
  • der Textformatierung und Vorbereitung von Forschungs- und Lehrunterlagen
  • Datenbankpflege und Internet-Recherchen

Sie sind qualifiziert, weil Sie

  • idealerweise noch mindestens zwei Jahre in einem Vollzeit Bachelor- oder Master-Programm eingeschrieben sind
  • Englisch und Deutsch sicher in Wort und Schrift beherrschen (Geschäftssprache der ESMT ist Englisch)
  • Solide Kenntnisse im Umgang mit MS-Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Internet und Adobe Acrobat haben
  • selbstständig und akkurat arbeiten
  • sehr gute organisatorische Fähigkeiten besitzen, sowie Liebe zum Detail und effizientes Zeitmanagement
  • flexibel, verantwortungsbewusst und proaktiv handeln, in Verbindung mit hoher Serviceorientierung
  • ein Teamplayer sind und ein freundliches Auftreten haben

Sie werden unser IT-Support Team unterstützen, indem Sie

  • Anfragen und Probleme per Ticketsystem aufnehmen
  • erste Problemanalysen durchführen und ggf. Lösungen vornehmen
  • die Anwender bei Benutzung der IT Ressourcen und Services unterstützen
  • bei vielfältigen Supportaufgaben mitwirken, wie z. B.
    • Installation und Inventarisierung von Soft- und Hardware, sowie Verwaltung der Benutzerkonten
    • Umbaumaßnahmen von Arbeitsplätzen und Veranstaltungsbetreuung mit IT-Bezug

We are looking for a teaching assistance course Corporate Finance in the full-time MBA program. The course is mostly practical while covering extensively the most important concepts. The course consists of 9 sessions of 2.5 hours each and one session of 3 hours for the final exam. In total, there are 60 students.

Student Assistant / Working Student
(m/f, 11,20 € / hour, up to 20 hours/week, to start on May 15 until July 14)

Your tasks will include

  • providing help in grading class participation, individual assignments, group assignments, quizzes and exams
  • sitting in each of the 9 sessions to take notes on class participation (2 sessions per week)
  • helping prepare some assignments, quizzes, and perhaps some teaching material (slides, questionnaires, etc.)

You are qualified for this position, because you

  • preferably have a background in finance (student at a master level)
  • are proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • know good English (reading and writing)
  • have excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
  • are a responsible and proactive person
  • are flexible in your schedule during May and July

About Space Shack

Main responsibilities

  • Taking control of the operational business after a short introduction period
