Research Assistant
(m/f, approximately 180-hour project)

Project Description

Prof. Guillermo Baquero is seeking a highly motivated research assistant for the project “Hedge Fund Flows and Performance”. The research assistant is ideally a (research) master’s student of Business Administration / Economics.

Duties

The research assistant will be required to program Stata codes, to prepare tables and graphs in Microsoft Words and Excel for three papers. In some cases, the underlying data is ready and has been extracted to Excel. In other cases, the underlying data for tables and graphs needs to be extracted or calculated from a large database in Stata.      

Qualifications

  • programming skills are a must (either Visual Basic, Stata, Matlab, etc)
  • proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc)
  • experience handling large datasets is highly desirable
  • good English (reading and writing)
  • a background in Economics or Business Administration is desirable but not compulsory
  • excellent organizational skills and especially attention to detail
  • responsible and proactive person
  • enrolled in a fulltime bachelor or master program

Employment Conditions

Starting as soon as possible. The duration of the project will be approximately 180 hours in max. 20-hour weeks in accordance with your schedule.

Payment

11€-12€/hour, depending on qualification.

As Program Manager you will

You are qualified because you

  • be responsible for all organizational aspects of our customized and executive development programs and other educational events
  • proactively support Speakers and Program Directors in preparing program documentation, i.e. session materials
  • take care of all organizational matters of our program participants on- and off-site before, during and after the program, i.e. booking of hotels and restaurants
  • look after various administrative tasks, i.e. program budgeting and billing  
  • work closely together with our team of Program Directors and Program Managers
  • already have experience in organizing events, conventions or educational programs
  • are highly service oriented and have a great perception for details
  • are fluent in English, German and Russian (additional language skills are a plus)
  • are organized and possess excellent time management skills
  • can adapt to working in an international environment
  • are flexible regarding working hours and are able to keep calm in turbulent phases
  • welcome the opportunity to travel for work
  • have experience in working with computers and programs of the MS Office Suite

Internships for Refugees (m/f, for the duration of 3 months)

We are looking for motivated Interns (m/f)

We offer

Three-month orientation internships in one of the most international working environments in the heart of Berlin where you will work closely with one of our teams. Upon your start as an intern we will provide thorough training to prepare you for your new responsibilities and will introduce you to the German and international work environment. For your internship you will be compensated with 400€ per month.

The internship will be 40 hours per week. Fewer hours are also possible upon negotiation for example if there are German classes that need to be taken as well.

As an intern you will

You should apply if you

  • work in one of the departments of ESMT in an international team
  • support the corresponding department with general office and administrative tasks
  • have first experience from other administrative positions in your home country
  • are computer literate
  • have first experience with programs of the MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • can communicate well in English and or German

Please choose between one of our departments ans state which one you chose in your motivation letter:

  • Accounting and Controlling (currently filled)
    • this is what you can learn / what you will be doing:
      • administrative duties (processing and filing bills, booking, working with databases)
      • travel expenses accounting
      • learning how to use the program “DATEV Kostenrechnung”
      • insight into the field of controlling
    • specific requirements
      • German and English at least finished B1-Level
      • prior knowledge of the Accounting and Controlling field (former internships at home country / volunteering / started degree in a familiar field / some work experience in the field)
  • Executive Education / Event Management of educational events such as seminars (this is a 6-week internship)
    • this is what they can learn / what they will do
      • organization of educational events (for example invitation management, printing table signs, booking rooms, doing reception, hosting guests on campus)
      • administrative support
      • booking hotels / travel booking for participants
      • preparing seminar materials
      • cooperation with internal and external partners / suppliers (for example catering)
    • specific requirements
      • very good English skills (B2 or higher)
      • German skills are a plus but not a requirement
      • very service-oriented personality
  • Facility Management
    • this is what they can learn / what they will do
      • repair work
      • room management
      • administrative support
      • helping with entry / exit process (for example managing key cards and keys, doing paperwork)
      • event set-up
      • assembling and dismantling
    • specific requirements
      • good knowledge of English and German (at least B1)
      • prior knowledge in the art of crafts
      • knowledge in electronics (electrical engineering)
      • first experience in the field of electronics / crafts (former internships in home country / volunteering / hobbies / started degree in a familiar field / some work experience in the field)
