Research Assistant

Research Assistant

For a research project, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), we are looking for a

Research Assistant
(m/f, 65 % to 100 % working hours, 2 - 3 years (depending on available funding))

The research assistant will be supervised by Prof. Francis de Véricourt, the principal investigator of the research project “Audit schedules in the presence of concealing effort in supply chains”.

As Research Assistant you will

  • work on a research program, which lies at the interface between operations research and economics (such as agency problems - moral hazard, information asymmetry, etc. - in operations systems)
  • review literature, formulate and solve mathematical models and write research papers
  • potentially collaborate with universities in the United States and France

You are qualified because you

  • hold a PhD, or are a PhD student in management science / operations research or economics
  • have very strong modeling and analytical skills such as optimization, dynamic programming, dynamic mechanism design, etc.
  • have experience in LaTeX and programming (e.g. MATLAB, Python or Java, etc.)
  • are motivated to work in an international academic environment
  • are completely fluent in English

As a Program Manager you will

  • be responsible for organizing customized and open executive development programs as well as other events
  • coordinate internal and external stakeholders/suppliers to lead the program-planning process and ensure the flawless execution of programs
  • proactively support faculty and program directors in preparing high-quality program documents, i.e. session and participant materials
  • take care of all logistical matters for our customers/participants

  • You will be working in one of our departments
  • You create and revise presentations or other course materials
  • You help organize seminars and various internal/external events

  • You format texts and help to prepare research and teaching materials

Your profile

  • are currently enrolled as a student in a fulltime Bachelor or Master program, for at least another year
  • can fluently communicate (written and verbal) in English and German
  • are able to work independently with strong attention to details
  • value a well-structured, attentive approach to organization, time-, and office-management
  • enjoy working service-oriented and pro-active
  • Ideally you have already worked in an office before

As an intern you will

  • work in one of the departments of ESMT in an international team
  • support the corresponding department with general office and administrative tasks

You should apply if you

  • have first experience from other administrative positions in your home country
  • have first experience with programs of the MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • can communicate well in English and/or German

This is what we can offer you

  • Three-month orientation internships in one of the most international working environments in the heart of Berlin, where you will work closely in one of our teams
  • Upon your start as an intern we will provide thorough training to prepare you for your new responsibilities, and will introduce you to the German and international work environment
  • For your internship you will be compensated with 400 €/month
  • The internship will be 40 hours/week. Fewer hours are also possible, e.g. if you need to take German classes

About Space Shack

We are an aspiring and innovative co-working space in the heart of Berlin Schöneberg. With 3’500 square metres we are one of the biggest co-working spaces in Germany. We are home to start-ups from all sorts of backgrounds like FinTech, education, digital and arts. Besides renting out tables, offices and meeting rooms, Space Shack doubles as excellent event venue. Through our cooperation with a top tier Berlin based business school our space serves a unique platform for interdisciplinary work and fosters synergies and innovation.

To support our team we are seeking a suitable candidate for the position of a managing director with an immediate start but no later than June 2018.

Main responsibilities

  • Taking control of the operational business after a short introduction period
  • Supervising and supporting the team to improve operational structures and processes further
  • Contributing proactively to the existing co-working community and exploiting new sources for customer acquisition
  • Conducting financial controlling diligently to increase corporate efficiency
  • Drafting regular reports and presentations for the majority stakeholder
  • Developing and maintaining an analytical framework to track and analyse cash flows accurately
  • Appreciating an international and dynamic work environment

Skills and experience

  • Commercial training or university degree in business administration or similar with strong academic credentials
  • Proven track record in business development, consulting or a background in Berlin’s start up scene
  • Advanced IT-skills (MS Office, DATEV or even co-working software like NEXUDUS) are desired
  • Fluency in English and German is required, further languages are considered a plus 
  • Outstanding ability to communicate, delegate and interact with the team is crucial
  • Entrepreneurial attitude with an ability to deal with complex problems in a timely, orderly and insightful manner
  • Vibrant personality, a positive can-do attitude as well as a high level of self-motivation is key
